Restaurant Brands KFC Nationwide Refurbishment

Client:
K.F.C (NZ) Ltd
Consultants:
Mortlock Architects
Construction Period: 30 stores in 16 months
Scope of Works: Total refurbishment of existing stores construction of new stores.

Argon Construction Ltd negotiated contracts with KFC (NZ) Ltd to carry out a refurbishment and modernization program for 30 of their fast food outlets situated all over New Zealand from Orewa to Invercargill. The time period for the work was 16 months.

Two major criteria applied. There had to be a minimum close-down period for each store and the work had to be done to a fixed budget.

To co-ordinate with KFC's marketing program and advertising campaign, the time frames for these retrofits were extremely tight. Each store had to be refurbished and operating again within 3 -6 days.

One of those projects where timing was so critical meant that fast track procedures were employed. Demolition teams worked from midnight to dawn; construction crews and subcontractors worked 15 hour days and 7 day weeks. Interiors were stripped and rebuilt, floors laid, electrical mains renewed and cooking lines modernized.

The quality and finish of Argon's work was such that KFC staff were able to start cooking within three hours of moving back into the refurbished stores.

The commitment and continuity shown by Argon throughout the program meant that every individual project was completed on time and to budget.

Besides the refurbishment and modernization work, Argon Construction Ltd has won tendered contracts with KFC for building new stores at Papakura, Pukekohe and Rotoura. Construction time for these ranged from 7 - 10 weeks.

Alterations and additions have also been undertaken at three locations. The most recent work completed was a slightly different project - the fit out of an existing retail store in Otahuhu to become a KFC Outlet.
