![]() Client: Auckland Regional Council Architect: Sinclair Group Engineer: Worley Consultants Construction Period: 6 Months Project Value: $5 million As successful Tenderer for the upgrade of the West Stand at Ericcson Stadium, Argon Construction was charged with the responsibility of building 42 corporate suites, 15 corporate booths, press boxes, changing rooms, kitchens, lounges and players facilities, all within a period of four and a half months! This $5 million project had to be completed within a very tight time frame with the project starting mid September and completion required by the 31st of January 1995. Three days programmed lead time and $20,000 per day liquidated damages all served to remind Argon that this project not only needed a very dedicated project management team but also Contractors and Sub Contractors who would work for 12 hours a day, seven days a week which is what it would take to get the project through in the required time. In addition to the above, detailed programming of the necessary materials and resources needed throughout the traditional Christmas close down period had to be undertaken. The tight timing and the sense of urgency on the job meant that the Architects, Engineers and Quantity surveyors had to be on 7 day call, to provide the backup needed to build this complex job to the standard that met ARC requirements. The project team stood together, worked well and supported each other through trying times. Materials were flown in from overseas to meet shipping shortages, and often people worked through the night to complete their part of the program to allow the next phase to carry on to competition. The corporate suites and the associated facilities in the west stand were a tribute to the industry's ability to pull together to complete a very difficult job in an extremely tight time frame. This is the sort of program that Argon Construction Ltd has recently excelled at and the company has an outstanding record in developments of this complexity. |
